Monkey on my Back

Home is more than a place we rest our bodies. It is also where our minds feel safe to wander. Surrounded by curated comforts, we allow our thoughts to reminisce, process, fantasize, regret, anticipate, experiment… and even stay stuck. This two-part collection is an expression of that state of mind. “MONKEY ON MY BACK” This piece explores the deep conflicting notions I had of identity, aesthetic, rules and belonging. How has witnessing the world in a pandemic changed us? Has our experiences opened our eyes or evolved how we see beauty? Does covid rules bring assurance or hinderance? How do we get back to the community again? What if we didn’t want to get back to what things were before? This collection of conflicting thoughts have become the monkey on my back.
